I just got a call from Ala Extortion. The guy says "pay us $180 or we're gonna cut off your sketch".

If I install Aurora and I don't buy Apex, I can no longer sketch a floorplan with WinSketch (which works perfectly, thank you).

If I don't install Aurora (the priviledge for which I've paid $300 in maintenance fees every year) my paid maintenance service becomes useless. No more updates, no more technical support.

So it's either "pay us an extra $180 and learn a new program, or find yourself with no support and no new updates that you paid for".

The extortionist did indicate that I could still use WinSketch somehow (of course he wouldn't go into detail about how), but he said it would not incorporate with Aurora. He mumbled something about pasting & copying.

Have you paid your "protection" money to them yet?

David, when thing slow, around X Mas, I think I would buy Clickforms, or some other low maintenance program. Right now, they have you by the, well, you know, and hence their "Buy it or we shut you it off and send you back to graph paper" attitude.

Dad-burn technology! Used to be able to pick up the phone and the person on the other end, called an "operator", would connect you to most people you knew by just tell em their name. :p

Heck in the good ole days the appraisal was done on a 3 x 5 card. Didn't even have to measure the durn thing let alone sketch it.

Just seem to be getting worse and worse. Started out with that darn Polaroid Camera and lenders wanting a photo stapled to the card.

So you can understand, the point is, being forced to pay for a new sketch program.

People like you should be sued for slander. You never paid for Winsketch, it was given to you for FREE, so don't come on here screaming extortion about something that they have no control over anyway. Winsketch was going to charge a la mode more than Apex does for an inferior product, so they went to apex. If you still want winsketch, go to jammin and buy it. It's crap compared to apex, but if that will make you happy then power to you. Judging by your post, the rep probably didn't tell you that you could go to jammin and buy the external version because he probably couldn't get a word in.

If you can't afford therapy, try Prozac.

If a prescription selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor isn't therapy, I'm not sure what would qualify. But I digress.

I am glad you found me touching. Very insightful reply, by the way. Or rather, replies.

You are the quintessential example of a parasite. You are given something for free and, when it can no longer be given to you, you rant as if some great criminal injustice has been done upon you.

You should be ashamed of yourself for creating this post without the facts. It's like appraising a house without doing an inspection. To anyone familiar with the truth you look like a foolish, spoiled child.

    Want to keep winsketch? http://www.winsketch.com/html/products___services.html

Either buy it there or keep using Athena. I don't see how you can be so upset about so small an amount of money anyway. Are you still appraising?!

    According to this:
    http://www.apexwin.com/v4/products/feeappraiser.htm
Apex is actually charging more for the new apex than a la mode. So I doubt seriously they are making any money on it, if not actually taking a loss.

I do wonder what the He** was FREE when I gave the folks $1,200 ??????? As I understood their sales pitch, 'EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED - ALL UPDATES, ETC AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PAY THE YEARLY FEE FOR SUPPORT - EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED IN THAT FEE'. Yes Ma'm - everything is included! So what was free? the sketch program was free????? .... and the $1,200 that included EVERYTHINS was for what? I thought I was buying the 'package' - not individual programs!

Either their sales people are telling little white lies, or perhaps I'm just too stoopid to understand.

IT IS NOT RIGHT TO CHARGE FOR THE SKETCH PROGRAM AFTER YOU PAID FOR THE PROGRAM AND UPDATES WERE PROMISED. I think the 350 anual support fee should be enough.
