During WWII, my father was a mechanic for the Army Air Corp. Mom and my big brother who was about 2 at the time, lived in town. The address is now under an interstate on the south side of downtown. I have some postcards from the air bases. Dad was at both Kelly field and Randolph.
I'll scan those post cards too.

Mt grandfather was an aircraft mechanic in Oklahoma during WWII.

A little known factoid about Oklahoma - Boise City, OK was the only town in the USA that was bombed during WWII.

Burns Flat was initially created as a Strategic Air Command (SAC) base but is now a "sub-orbital" space port...

Apparently Oklahoma got a lot of aviation related bases (I missed mentioning Altus) due to the history of Wiley Post and Will Rogers - a pioneer and advocate for the industry. J. Paul Getty had a bomb proof house at the Spartan facility in Tulsa. Spartan has been in avionics for decades and once made RVs comparable to Airstream.
