Hello everyone! I am a Certified Appraiser in New York with 23 years of experience and am looking to relocate to Georgia. Was wondering if anyone could give me some heads up on the Georgia appraisal market. Also, how is the licensing board down there and, most importantly, jobs? Would love to hear from someone soon. Thanks!

Try the Georgia Appraisers Forum - I know fellow Georgians post and check there more often than the sub-forum here. You're more likely to get some more responses.

I've known a handful of people to relocate from NY and NJ to Georgia, and they almost always pick Marietta, Roswell, or Johns Creek to settle down in. They're all part of the Greater Atlanta area, and are in deep suburbia. I grew up in Marietta, so I might be a bit biased :-)

The board is easy to deal with, just a 2 page reciprocity form. Also have an option for a temporary permit if needed to get going faster. Not many post in the GA part of this form, but there are many GA appraisers who follow this forum in general. As noted above, there is a smaller GA Appraisers forum run by one of our local continue ed schools. I'll check in every now and then, but there are a lot of yahoos and jokesters. So it's not quite as professional in MNSHO.

Depending on what part of GA you are moving to will depend on what MLS system you need to join. For the greater Atlanta area and north GA, FMLS and GA MLS are the most used. There are some smaller Realtor owned MLS systems in the more rural mountain areas in Hiawassee and Clarkesville. GSCCCA is a MUST subscription, get all deeds and plats on line for the whole state. FMLS membership comes with Realist, so no need to join separately. Other than than, Google the county and you'll find all tax records on line... every county in GA has their info on line now.
