Hello all,
I recently finished the required education to become an appraiser trainee. I have yet to send my certifications of completions in and get the licensing but I will soon. As I have researched the appraisal industry I have noticed that there are many who take on trainees before they have completed the required 79 hour courses for TX. Is that common? I felt it would be best to knock the education out first for a couple of reasons. 1. To ensure it would be a field I enjoyed. (I do) 2. To be able to implement what I have learned with a mentor immediately instead of requiring the mentor to teach everything.
After going through the courses I realized doing an appraisal is far more complicated than I expected. I had always assumed it was very simple. You know what they say about assumptions though. I was truly fascinated at the multiple approaches to determine value, research, and challenges that are involved. I am looking for a quality mentor that can teach me and not simply throw me out there. I really do like the challenges and real estate has always been a market I wanted to be in. I do have some questions though. Any assistance will be appreciated.
What are the best steps in finding a supervisor?
Is it best to start with a large firm?
What are the expectations for a trainees first month, first quarter, and first year?
What kind of salary expectations can I have?
Is it 1099 work or W2?
