Can anyone share who the larger residential appraisal firms are in the Indianapolis area (or that at least do residential as a component of their business)? These being aside from the smaller 1-5 people appraisal shops. I am interested in a full time staff position, but not sure of who all to be checking with.

Thanks!

I know this is late, but I do not know of anyone at this time that is hiring.

Thanks for your response. Being in Indiana, may I ask how busy you are currently? And whether you anticipate activity to be steady from here into the summer or will it get busier than it is now?

FWIW, you're better off with a firm that does both residential and commercial work. The reason is that many larger projects involve both residential and commercial properties. Such projects will not go to a residential-only firm, for the simple reason they can't handle the entire project.

New mortgages for 2014 are supposed to be the lowest in 14 years. If that is correct it will be a bad year for appraisers.

Good to know.

Perhaps I'll land a commercial job. I've become open to going this direction, particularly, because of residential woes.

A lot of residential appraisers/shops don't even know about how much work they get shut out of because of this. In fact, today I accepted an assignment involving two commercial properties and one good-paying waterfront residential assignment. The client selected the commercial/residential shop for the simple reason that the layperson doesn't want to have to deal with multiple shops when one shop that handles the entire project can be selected.

Lots of "supposed" things never happen. I am looking forward to the busiest year in 2014 that I could ever desire or want to happen.
