I have my own thoughts on what it is but I didn't see a vent pipe. If it is that, we don't have many of them down here so this would be why I am on the fence. That thing to the right just popped out of the ground like someone just stuck it there.

I'm not asking about the white bottle with the blue label wise guys/gals. :icon_mrgreen:

It is a 125+ year old town.

    Thanks-

Some sort of under ground tank? Found one similar to your pic at a foreclosure couple months back. might or might not be a hazard. Wonder if thats a rusted shut off handle?

Buried fuel oil tank. Pipe at right looks like it might be a type of vent.

That's what I thought but what would likely be the vent pipe is a solid chunk of metal that you can pull out of the ground (I put it back like it never happened). It's gotta be an old oil tank right?

I suspect so. Could the solid metal piece may have been some type of valve handle?

Exactly right. Underground fuel oil storage tank for home heating. One is the filler pipe, the other is (was) the vent. Usually 250-275 gallon capacity.

We have lots of those around here. Make appropriate environmental comments re: UST (underground storage tank).

The other possibility is a connection to the sewer to drain the holding tank from an RV. If you remove the cap you would immediately know which one it is.
