What's The Excuse For Talcb To Require Fingerprints? Follow The Money

Texas Appraiser Licensing Board is now requiring $37.00 (+2.6% fee if paying by credit card) for fingerprints to renew or issue licenses. As I see it, there is zero benefit to me, the public, or the profession but in this era, nobody loses by the APPEARANCE of increased security. Meanwhile, the vendor is lining its pockets with gold.

Many years ago Oregon's board wanted to finger print. I wrote a letter to the ACLU and asked them if it was a proper use of finger printing and they said it was not. Twenty years later, or so, the finger print requirement was made again. I emailed the ACLU and they said, "Yeah, they can do that." I guess its one of the privacy rights we lost after 9/11. I've heard airport security can look at and down load anything on your phone without any reason too.

Yeah, but most of them are already on file with the sheriff, aren't they?

BTW, I have digital copies of my finger prints, so why should I have to cough up more money for fingerprint copies I already own?

In my state we have had a fingerprint requirement all along. It contributes to the background check they do for criminal records.

Correct. Maybe different in other areas, but I did not have to pay a fee as long as I went to my own city police dept.

TALCB accepted my fingerprints that are on file with TREC for my brokers license, which were provided years ago. This is disclosed in the fine print of the requirements. No additional fee was required on my last renewal.
