Default Friday!

Have a good weekend all. I'm heading out to the Dirks Bentley concert at Harrahs in Cherokee. Flashy jeans, check. Ariat boots, check. Time to cut lose!

I think he's touring with The Cadillac Black as warm up. If so, you're in for quite a treat!

Since Nocona, Justin, and Tony's all went plastic and done away with traditional steel shank and wood peg boots, .... Araits? why not. But a real western boot now is custom made. The best of the OTC lot is probably Lucchese http://www.lucchese.com/
or Mercedes http://mercedesboots.com/
A custom boot is usually built in a traditional method with all leather, real arch and shank, and not of this foam intersole and unrepairable soles..

Loveless and Sorrels are two small OKie custom makers too...

Plan on waiting a few months for the boot...plain calfhide in black is the flashiest you want (in my opinion.) And a good custom hat maker? Try Nate Funmaker - yep, he's Native American - perfect fit - http://www.nathanielsofcolorado.com/

Damn Dierks ROCKS!!! Love the small venues, he had is 4 year old daughter come out and sing a song they wrote while traveling over from Nashville. So darn cute, and the audience was a hush while they sang their road song together. Thundering applause afterwards, they bowed and she skipped off stage with the happiest look of wonder. Fan-damn-tastic show.

May favorite was when everyone was invited to sing.... Grab a beer.
I LOVE COLD BEER!

So glad you had/are having a good time! We all need to stop and smell the roses. Life is indeed too short.

Ms. Janet, what do you need to have a good time? I thought good times were dependent on you?

I agree, have starting taking off Wednesdays for fishing. Weekends are fun with the kids, but the weekends are too busy on the lake for such activities.

Mountainman,
Love the song and recognized the musical style immediately. The slide guitar player, guitar player with the long hair and baseball cap and drummer in the video are The Cadillac Black, one of my current favorite bands who have been touring with Dierks Bentley, ZZ Topp and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The title Down to the River reminded me of Allison Krauss "Down to the River to Pray"
sung in "O Brother Where art Thou?"
Alison Krauss - Down To The River To Pray - YouTube

That song was actually derived from a Doc Watson tune which he claimed was sung to him by his grandmother as "up on the mountain to pray" His version is called "Down in the Valley to Pray"

Terrel,

Funny you should mention that. Just the other day my husband and I were talking about how so many great musicians seem to have songs with references to rivers. Alison Krauss' version was one that we brought up and that we both like.

Here's another one by my favorite guitarist, Joe Bonamassa:
