Default My new gym workout :)

well into my second week now and hoping by the end of the year I can be at or close to my goal weight (and this time KEEP it off !)

I am now up to 30 minutes on the elliptical, 20 on the stairstepper although this machine is kicking my butt and right now and I am doing 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after my - 30 minutes on the stationery bike. I have increased the elliptical to level 2 and the bike to level 6.

Haven't used the weights much but once I have gotten my metabolism improved I will start working on some of the machines there. I am really pushing myself and going 5 days a week - today is one of my days off and if I didn't have so much to do at home I'd go anyway - but getting home at 8 pm is really cutting into my at home business time.

The scale has finally budged some - can't wait to really see a difference. Figure at my new age of 50 it's get into shape now or look forward to being diabetic and having blood issues like my mother and grandmother did! I believe I can avoid a lot of problems in my older age if I make exercise a part of my weekly schedule - maybe go back down to 3 days a week instead of 5 when I get to my *maintenance* level.

Anyone have any good success stories to share?

Default not exactly a sucess story... however,

prior to my case of plantar facitus, i was going monday through friday, 4:30 p.m. with my neighbor [and the wife of my associate]. But she moved to Gulf Shores, and i haven't gotten the motivation to go back yet, by myself... Also, am very afraid of getting the foot thingy again, maybe if i stay on top of this thread, my motivation will come back.

its always good to have someone to go with - I did that last year and then she got preggo and stopped going I lost 35 pounds and then hit a bad streak in my life and stopped going - now I am almost having to start off where I did then - gained all back but 5 pounds and NOT doing that again!

Also saw someone with a t-shirt that said something like sparkpeople.com - eveidently thats a page with support and diet stuff - I may check it out. I can tell I have more energy already - looking forward to big changes

Good for you Joanne!!! 5 days a week is great!!!

Pieter joined the gaurd so he is currently working on getting his PT test scores up. For the last month or so he runs in the morning and works out at the gym at night. I have been cooking all healthy stuff (amazing how expensive it is to eat healthy, our shopping allowance has been blown out of the water).

Anyway, a girls worst nightmare is when their man starts to look better than she does. So I need to start working out as well. You may have inspired me to get back on track.

Good luck!

Thanks Kate! Right now I am eating a lot of stuff from my garden - eggplants, tomatoes, still have many cucumbers left, even cantaloupe and honeydew which turned out to taste amazing! After that I guess I am back to chicken and fish a lot. I can't run cuz I have a bum ankle but the equipment doesn't bother it at ALL. I actually can't wait to go tonight (dang place doesn't have a shower or I might try to go in the AM). Good luck to you also!

Christine, I also had plantar fasciitis, in both feet at the same time. It is very painful. When I had it I could hardly walk in the mornings. The thing that cures it is getting orthopedic inserts for your exercise shoes. I wore them every day for about 6 months, and still have them in my gym shoes. It has been now over four years-I think- and I have not had any recurring symptoms. These are expensive because they have to be custom-made or they won't work, but they will solve your problem.

Also strengthening the arch will help over the long term. If a physical therapist didn't work with you, google plantar fasciitis and you'll find a lot of info and exercises on the web. You can 'massage' the arch by rolling it over a tennis ball (when I had plantar fasciitis this hurt like h*ll). You can also tape your foot to support your arch, before exercising, and also I found that wearing a sock-like ankle support helped because it pulled up my arch.

Good luck!
