Default How to keep from losing your file

Well, it happened again. This is the third time in about 10 years I have lost a report with a corrupt file. I was 5 minutes from completing it and the entire file went corrupt. ALL OF YESTERDAYS work was lost. Backup file also corrupt. Carbonite failed to make a copy. Needless to say, Im not a happy camper.

ACI could not retrieve the file.

To prevent this from happening go to Options, then enviornment, and file management. Make sure the second line "Place copy of report file in" is checked. I put it in my documents.

ACI, in its wisdom, never told me to check this option, even after I lost previous reports. They wanted to save file space on my computer.

AARGH!!!

You could take it one step further to a USB drive.

I'd find more stable software.

I have about the same rate, 3 times in 12 years. Thanks for the storage tip, I just set it up to go to my docs.

I have two hard drives in my PC and frequently copy and paste from ACI/Reports to my back up drive. Aci had a nasty habit of screwing both the .aci AND the .abk file on a crash so keeping a file on different drive cuts down on retyping. Also, .aci files do not like to get too large so convert them to .zoo files except if you are sending to Quantrix since pimp daddy Quan will not accept .zoo files.

Learning is fun!

I have an external hard drive and I have ACI automatically save the back up copy there. Go to Options; Environment; File Management and then set the path for back ups and copies to the ext. hard drive. You can buy a 1TB (1,000 GB) for $200.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the tip. I now have two backup sites set up. The problem with being a one man band is the lack of info like this that usually SOMEONE in the company knows. Guess I gotta read the manual.
