Default 2009 FEMA Disaster Inspections

The hurricane season is here again. There was a thread that ended 10/2008 with some of our forum members going to MS, LA and TX to do some inspections for FEMA. I went to Houston and got sick after a few days and had to come home. I just wondered how many have done this and what your experience was. Did you make money? Would you do it again?

I thought about it and asked my doctor what he thought. He said it would be "challenging." So, if your body and general health are up to par, go for it! It would be an interesting experience.

Signed up and went to a class to get "certified" but after doing the math and observing the general disorganization of those involved decided it was not for me. Biggest concern for me was the idea of being in a disater area with no guarntee of where to stay and how much money I would be making. There are strong proponents of the disadter inspection industry who made their voices heard in the thread from 2008 referenced above. I would suggest PMing them and getting their true impressions of the experience.

I started the thread back in 2008. I no longer do the inspection work but keep my certification up to date. My wife if an experienced inspector and works all the time for PaRR Inspections. She has been gone for three months now in WV and KY working floods. She was home for almost a week and was in ND for the floods up there for about 1 & 1/2 months.

It is hard to say what the Hurricane season will be like this year. El Nino is here and it will effect the Atlantic Ocean too. I don't think they are expecting a lot of Hurricanes. The only thing I know is, typically when there are fewer Hurricanes, they are larger and could cause more damage. This is just my observation and not from any other source.

The inpection work is good for those that are self motivated, can manage their finances, are good in time management. I will be happy to talk to anyone interested in more information.

The two companies are PaRR Inspections and PB Disaster Services. You can Google them both.
