Default Don't use ACI if you are thinking about switching to them

Their sales team promises you the moon, but once you are signed up their tech support fails to deliver! Sent Andrew 3 emails over the course of two weeks to get a status on a software glitch....he has yet to respond. I would go with Wintotal...have used the software and its a whole lot more comparable to Appraisal Studio. May cost more, but less hassle and not having to wait on Andrew at ACI is worth it.

I've been with wintotal since the dos days and would not reccomend anything else. I am forced to use Lighthouse (ACI) for 2 clients and it is without a doubt the worst piece of code ever written. I used Homeputer probably 20 years ago and that got me hooked on the concept. If I needed only basic formfilling capability, that would probably be my choice (again). First choice is alamode (WinTotal). Its intutive, easy to import exhibits, and has a great database.

Andrew is now going into 4 weeks without getting back to me on the software glitch. Talk about excellent service!!! No one should buy this incompetent software program....

It sounds like you got a dud for tech support. Call again and ask for a different representative. I have had to call ACI tech support a few times over the years and they have been very helpful and quick to respond.

I have used tech support to transfer a license to another computer. I also visit the attached site on occasion. If the line is busy, I have used chat on the aci web site to initiate a return call from their staff.

I have no beef with ACI, other than the annual fee for doing nothing for me. Have used it for 12+ years, and have 2 Cert Res using it and 2 trainees using it.

Andrew, or Andy, is one of the main tech support specialists at ACI, and is the guy featured on their website. The main issue is apparantly their software is not completely compatible with Vista 64 platform. My main issue is the lack of professionalism of no returned emails when I have asked for a status. I understand they are working out the bugs with Vista, and hopefully Windows 7 will not be as much as an issue, but it is apparant they are not putting our $$ into the resources needed to remain current with operating system upgrades. For any ACI employees lurking or posting on this thread, I hope you realize the consequences of poor software and customer service, and make your software functional to meet our current needs.

I've had no problems with ACI and the times I've had to call tech support the issues were resolved immediately. I've used both ACI and WinTotal, I personally prefer ACI.

I have no dog in this hunt, but FWIW, my observations are that Andrew of ACI tech support cares about the relationship with a customer and I've seen him doing support work at night and on weekends, etc. - certainly when he is not "on the clock." As a fellow developer and employer myself, I admire that sort of dedication. Since I am not an ACI user, nor not even an appraiser anymore, I cannot 100% relate to the frustrations some have posted, but from my "3rd Party" perspective, I've always had the impression that Andrew was technically competent and very professional. Maybe everyone there is in what we call "heads down mode" getting ready for the eminent Windows 7 release (?)...

For those having problems with Vista, 32 bit or 64 bit, I might suggest that you take a look at Windows 7. We have had a very good experience with the RC and now RTM builds of Windows 7. The official release is less than 60 days away and I believe you can still download a free copy good for 120 days. Also, FWIW, if you have an even relatively recent CPU and 2 GB of RAM or more, Windows 7 has a very nice "Virtual XP" mode built-in for those programs which haven't been updated to be Vista (or Windows 7) compliant/friendly. I have not tried any of the ACI products in VXP but I've yet to find anything that hasn't worked well. Of course, I've also not found anything that hasn't run better under Windows 7 than Vista, either. YMMV...

Hope this helps!
