Question Window 7 and ACI

Any one have any thoughts if ACI will work with Windows 7? I am using a 6 year old computer. I am hanging in there for 2 more weeks until it is released. ACI sales did not have an answer. I asked to speak to the programmers, but they said that you can't. ACI does not seem to keep on top of upgrades in the operating systems.

Some sales people in the stores think that all programs should not have any compatability issues. It is supposed to work like XP.

Windows 7 has an "XP mode" that you can run your ACI software in.

If it has an XP mode, that will be great.

Are you running in XP mode? 64-bit Windows 7?

I would be worried about 64 bit vs. 32. I have vista 64 and there have been a few hiccups. However, if you install with the right people on the phone from ACI they could save a lot of time and headaches.

I will install ACI witha tech on the phone. I pay for service so I might as well use it. I am using Winsketch. The sales people said that it will not work, especially on 64 bit. I called winsketch and they said it will work. That will be another wild card to this upgrade. They do not even make winsketch anymore. It is now a different verison.

I am having problems with DC Sketch and x64, as it is not compatible. The ACI PDF Generator also does not function correctly with Windows 7 x64.

Unhappy Windows 7

I spoke with ACI tech support last week. They said ACI will run fine in windows 7 both 32 bit and 64 bit; however, they had not fully tested it? Meaning: The statement - that it will work - is based on one upgraded machine they have in house and reports from users using the RC version of W7.

XP mode is only available in 64 bit professional and ultimate, additionally it only functions if your hardware supports it.

64 bit Windows is not worth the trouble unless you have a PC with more than 4 gigs of RAM and you have a true need for a 64 bit system. If you are an appraiser running ACI you do not have a need for a 64 bit system.

The techs seem to be telling everyone that the sketch programs won't work; however, theirs will. But when pressed they admitted they haven't tested it.

ACI has not had a major re-write since it was first built way back in 96 or 98 (tough to remember now). The whole thing was built very nicely but programming has come a long way since then. This suite could use a rebuild similar to what Alamode did a few years back; hopefully it happens and goes over well, but every few months I get the twitch to switch - if only we didn't have so much invested in one system...
