Default How does anyone become an appraiser today?

The changes in the world of real estate appraising today is amazing. I don't know if you've noticed but the AMC, along with FHA have no interest in using just a residential appraiser any longer. it's either certified or nothing. What this means in my service areas of Mass and RI is 200 hours of classroom (not online classes) and an associates degree or related classes. What is so bad about being just a licensed real estate appraiser these days? Can you imagine the cost, and who can hire trainees if these companies won't allow them to appraise. It is truly amazing. To end on a positive note though, all these changes will make the appraiser a more valuable commodity!

No. The trend is to push down fees and restrict trade. Appraisers are to be used and thrown away.

Let me see if I've got this straight. You are complaining about the rigorous associate degree requirement to become a certified appraiser? Please tell me you're joking. I think that the minimum to become a certified residential appraiser should be a bachelor degree, with much more stringent state testing.

Your argument is degrading to this profession.

Besides, your thread title should be "Why would anyone want to become an appraiser today."

Add a few more and we can do boogie-woogie or even classical!
