Default Proposed limestone quarry in Costa Rica

This assignment is out of my league. My client needs someone to appraise a potential limestone quarry in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This would require someone with quarry valuation experience who can speak enough Spanish to do market research in northern Costa Rica.

There are geologist's reports in Spanish, but my previous experience in Costa Rica leads me to believe that no one there can be trusted, so some type of independent confirmation (I don't know what procedures that will entail) would be needed. The quarry has not broken ground yet.

Any suggestions? Volunteers?

I don't know if you'll find a qualified appraiser that speaks spanish. The client may have to settle for translator and an appraiser. Maybe not... just seems unlikely to me.

You can try the AI "find an appraiser" option-found three that specialize in minerals and speak Spanish. I'm sure you thought of that but figured I'd mention it.

I only speak spanish when I'm drunk....and I'm not qualified or competent.

But I'll be glad to go and stay drunk if you need me to.

Due to their labor laws and the unusual way they report sales along with the disinformation to avoid taxes you definitely need an appraiser located in the country.
I suggest you contact some realtors in Costa Rica and ask them for referrals.

I don't know the man, but the name Michael Cartwright comes to mind. Reno, I think.

Does Terrel do that kind of stuff?

Thanks, everyone. Calvin, thanks for showing me the ASA directory. Not to slight the AI, but it impresses me that ASA actually certifies people in this specialty.

This post cracks me up .... so you think there are no Spanish speaking qualified appraisers lets say ... in the states of Texas, New Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida or any other multitude of locations where Spanish is widely spoken???? I believe it will be harder to find someone to take the assignment than it will be to find a Spanish speaker that is qualified.

Time for you to get out into the world a bit more !!!!!

PS ... Vernon .. I think I would contact the Bureau of Land Management / Department of Interior and inquire as to who they use for similar assignments. It is my understanding they are very very selective regarding assignments of this type and I bet they would be able to direct you / your client in the right direction.

I also believe if you can contact Steven Santora, he may well have a suggestion of who you might use. Santora knows a lot of appraisers.
