Got that standard call I get every now and then, "I've heard some good things about you and would like to do some business." Yadda Yadda Yadda Then he said he got my name from one of my best clients so my ears perked up. Seems the appraiser he was using in my neck of the woods who was receiving about 5-7 deals per month suddenly upped his fee for a URAR by 75 bucks. He did not tell the LO until after he billed 7 jobs last month, long story short, that money came out of the LO's pocket. Just got 2 requests from him today, now that's an easy way to get some biz. Some appraisers are just lousy businessmen.

TC,

Give me that client back, you horse thief!

Just kidding, I think if you decide to raise your fees, you should run it by your client first. Some don't care, some would rather take their business elsewhere.

That's my point, how dumb could anyone in any biz be to not tell his clients ahead of time. I guess once again clean living pays off!

Last month I made the difficult decision to up my fees by $50. I notifed all my clients and explained that this was the first time I had raised my fees in 19 years. I thought I might lose a few clients, but they all called or E-mailed me and said, "Good for you...about time you gave yourself a raise!" I'm still getting work from all of them.

TC,

5 orders today at the expense of an appraiser who " did 5-7 per month" sounds a little odd.

I know you've been around for some time. Have you considered that the issue may not be the $75 but another number the old appraiser was or should I say wasn't giving?

I know business is probably a little slow but I like to go slow and see if the client is a good fit fro me as much as a fit for them.

Just a thought.
