Hey thanks for that link, I live in Las Vegas now, but I don't plan on living here forever. It has rained a couple times here while I was on an inspection, and I was wondering how people in Oregon, or places like that deal with the rain.

Years ago, before it was deemed environmentally unsafe, we used to spray Scotch-Guard on our notepads on rainy days. You'd soak the first three or four sheets with the Scotch-Guard which would quickly evaporate. After that you could make field notes with a pencil that were almost totally waterproof. They changed the formula a while back to try and save the ozone and now it just makes an oily mess.

Man, that sure would have come in handy when it started pouring on me yesterday during an inspection! lol
Thanks for the link. I think I am going to get one of those. Lisa |

I have never even heard of that. I might look into that also.

I use a 49 cent gallon freezer bag, the zip lock kind. Kepp a few in the truck. When it rains here, which happens occasionally, the only paper that goes in is my sketch grid, folded in half. Make two measurements, then open and write them down. All my other notes can be done from the truck. While inside the home, just pull out the file folder. I do have an underwater dry bag for my Mavica, use it while ww rafting. While writing this I just had another idea that would work pretty cheap. Why not use a sheet of opaque plastic, and draw your sketch with a grease pencil? Then wait until you are somewhere dry and transfer the notes. Wipe clean with a rag and you are ready for the next one.

I tried that waterproof paper. Only problem is if you try to erase something, it makes a big mess!!

That's why they put porches on houses! You go measure a
couple of sides and then come back and write down your measurements. A better technique is to schedule your appointments for the day after the big storm. I've gone for years at a time without getting wet in an area that gets 60"+ of rain a year. elliott |

Why not just use a pad folio and keep it closed until time to write under cover?
