No, Virtual PC will not run WinTOTAL. It will run ClickFORMS, but with a bit of a lag problem.

If, like me, you just prefer to work on a Mac: the best way to do it is install the appraisal software on an inexpensive PC running XP Pro and connect to it using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client or GoToMyPC.com while away from the office. Next year when the Intel Macs appear Virtual PC may very well be able to handle WinTOTAL since processor translation will no longer be necessary.

Actually, WinTotal will work fine on a Mac with VirtualPC. I've been using this combination every day for the last 3 months.

Virtual PC 7.x
Mac OS X 10.3.9
Powerbook G4 1.67MHz
1 GB RAM

Hope this helps,
James

Good to here you had success with it James. When I tried last fall I could not get it to install, much less run. I guess I need to update my VPC installation and try again.

Lots of RAM helps and you'll want to turn off all of XP's eye candy, if you're using that version of Windows. There are some additional Windows tweaks to squeeze out a little better performance, but I'll agree, Windows emulation could get pretty interesting when the Intel chips start shipping in Macs.

But still, wouldn't the world be a better place with MacTotal?

It depends on what you want to do. You can purchase the basic VPC package with DOS, if you have software that you can install from DOS. Additionally, you can install any version of Windows onto this version of VPC if you already have a Windows install disc and a spare license.

If you need to run XP, you can purchase a VPC package with XP. You'll probably want to turn off all of XP's eye candy to maximize the performance of VPC.

Hope this helps,
James
