I am trying to figure out how to draw a curve using free form lines.

I don't have an Apex v4 (aka "Medina") loaded on my machine as that version is so old, but I do have an Apex v5 loaded up. I believe Av4 works like Av5 with respect to drawing lines (including Free Form.) If you are just approximating the curve attributes, while drawing, you can roll your mouse wheel to "bow" a line in 15 degree increments. Holding [Shift] while rolling the mouse wheel changes to 1/2 degree increments. If you need more precise input, pressing [F7] brings up a Curve dialog where you can enter in the various attributes - arc length, arc height ("bulge") and/or degree of curvature. The Menu item for Curve is under the Draw Menu and shows the [F7] hot key designator as well.

Hope this helps!

What does it cost to upgrade to a newer version?

Are you still having a problem or are you just wondering?

As far as upgrade costs, I'm sorry to sound dumb, but I'm not into "sales" type stuff. If you want to PM me with your info, I can have one of the techs get with you on upgrades, etc. (I like the techs more than the sales people, LOL) We're on version 6 now - I think v5 is already about 5 years old. I would assume you'd want to go to version 6 instead of version 5, right? If it'll help, I will ask the tech to give you a version 5 and a version 6 license for the same price (a sort of two-fer, LOL) Anyway, if you want to call in and talk to a sales person, the first thing they will probably ask is if you know your account number so they can look you up. Again, alternately, I can get a tech to get with you and even give you a sort of walk-thru vs. dealing with a salesperson. Let me know what works best for you and I'll help where I can.

Thanks for the reply.

The description you provided works for everything but free form line drawing. I can make a curve in free from but I am not able to adjust or fine tune the curvature of the line with the mouse wheel. Instead the mouse wheel changes the display size of the drawn Areas.

Send me your contact info. While I'd love for you to purchase a new version when needed, lets get your current version working first, OK? Just PM me with your Name/Company name, phone, zip code and email address - I can look you up and then get a tech to call you and see about getting your curve lines working :-)

Rolling the mouse wheel with the "pen up" will rescale the sketch page. Try drawing out the Free Form line but do not anchor it in the sketch (by pressing Enter). While the line is stll "grey" with the dimension lable showing start rolling the wheel on your mouse. This should start curving the line. Once you get the curve to the dimensions you would like press Enter to anchor the line/curve into the sketch.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for pointing that out, Brian. My mistake for not being specific about what "state" you're in can alter what some controls do - they are sort of "context sensitive" in that regard.

Redfish - If you'll PM Brian (Bmarino) with your info, he will get back with you and help you out. He is the specific technician I was going to have contact you. I have confidence in him and I believe that after spending a few minutes with him, you'll end up with increased productivity. That is, 10 minutes of some "tips 'n tricks" should resolve into time savings much more than that going forward, especially if you are thinking "cumulatively"... :-)
