I am seeking opinions on appraisal software,

Can you steer me in the direction of a product that:

Runs in a Windows environment, and is;

1) Good for beginners in appraisal
2) Yet, expandable when the need arises
3) Not grossly expensive
4) Does not require a shoebox full of RAM to print images and/or detailed graphics.
5) My CPU is in need of an upgrade, and I will probably go laptop.

I am quite computer literate, I logged on the "Groupnet" in 1982, which (after a light year of changes) is now, of course, the Internet. I have been using these tools consistently ever since. Thanks in advance

Terry

I would order all the free demos I could get and try them out. There are several really good ones available and one should fit your needs.

Some, like Appraisers Toolbox, are fully operating versions that will allow you to test them while you work.

Others require you to type up a second report but you will not be able to do much with it other than to see how the software operates.

I bought the Toolbox because business was very busy when I needed it and it allowed me to keep working without losing any time. The program is very simple and met my needs. I have never had to use tech support nor have I really needed the manual because the program is so simple and the help screens very good when and if you need them.

Dave,

I highly reccomend Wintotal! I would guess that Toolbox would be my second choice. I learned on Appraisit............don't buy it!

Wintotal has the best support, bar none. ( Name another company whose owner monitors the appraisers forum to see what people need, in case you didn't know that see posts on this site by dbiggers. )

My friend bought Toolbox, he learned on Appraisit also and if you want to here some new cuss words, just ask him what he thinks of that software! He didn't buy Wintotal because at the time he didn't think that he was as computer literate as he needed to be for Wintotal. Actually he was, but he was very stressed out over appraisit's crashes, and lack of tech support.

I recently hired a trainee, that has had some experience in appraising, and he has been able to pick up on Wintotal with no problems. In fact he and I will soon be splitting the cost of another load of the program for his new computer. ( See my post as a question to Dave Biggers about Apex upgrades )

Good luck.
