DEMO COPY

written all over it.
What to do?
Have put in a call to Tech Support, but they're buried and it'll probably take a day or two before they call me back.
Any of you SFREP users run into this before? I'm desperate.....lost all of last week due to a major crash and now this.......

Thanks,
Frantic in Friday Harbor

Nancy, you might want to subscribe to the SFREP users group if you haven't already:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFREP-UserGroup/

there has been one post regarding your problem. i believe the poster was directed to the download site at www.sfrep.com for a patch.

I have 3.3 but haven't installed it yet; i'm not quite that brave without my techie holding my hand. hope to get it installed this week. I'm working late tonight. email me if you'd like

I don't use the same software, but this is just a thought from my past experience when my computer crashed and I had to re-install EVERYTHING. It took me 5 hours to figure out what I was doing wrong. I loaded the software, but previous updates were not loaded. I forgot that I had down loaded some updates and corrections from the vendors' web site  , therefore, the registration info did not work on the old version. But it worked like a charm after I downloaded and installed the updates. Check and make sure that you have the latest version with all of the vendor updates.

Other than that, I guess just pray that tech support calls you soon. Or e-mail them until someone responds.

Mell.

I use apraise it as well and did not download the upgrade for this very reason.

My suggestion to downloading any ugrades of working software is to give it 6 months and read user's groups to see if there are problems before going ahead with the download. This way other people work out the problems and you don't have to be a guinnea pig.

I have this software but I am not using it at present. In the past I found that I could re-register and it usually worked. Go to registration and re-enter your codes and address Exactly as it was given to you....I don't think that it is necessary to re:install the entire program. I hope it works for you.

Appraise-It has the sorriest "tech support" in the business. Their idea of "tech support" is: you fax or e-mail your problem, and 3 or 4 days later they send you a "solution" to a totally unrelated problem. They wreak.

Your best bet is to get a real appraisal program like Bradford or WinTotal.

Hi All,

Sorry, I'm delinquent in getting back to you all. Actually, I found the answer to my problem on the SFREP Users Group at Yahoo. Marty had written a really good solution to the problem which apparently involved my custom skeletons with my old certification number (Washington State changed them all).

Anyone who's using SFREP/Appraise-It and not perusing the users group is missing out on a lot of tips and useful advice.

In defense of tech support @ SFREP, Nancy is the techie who has called me back the 2 or 3 times I've needed her -- and I couldn't have asked for a more helpful person. She talks me through the process/procedure with the full understanding that I'm an appraiser, not a computer geek. I ask her the dumbest questions and she has the grace to answer me without even laughing! I've found if you print out the support manual and read it (I'm of the "If all else fails, read the instructions" school), most of the stuff in already in there.

Despite a couple of frustrating moments, the more I use it the more I like it.

Just had another thought/comment about SFREP tech support........

The last couple of weeks with the new release out have been tough on everybody. But you get a period of FREE telephone tech support when you get the upgrade. And after that period, you just pay for phone support as you need it -- so much per minute or some such.

As for email and fax support, they provide that as a FREE service after they've taken care of the paying customers. You can complain all you want about how quickly they get back to you for no charge, but I'm not going to get on that bandwagon!! If you look back at some of the posts about other company's tech support, it doesn't seem to me that anyone brags about a better situation than ours even if they pay several hundred bucks a year!!!

My 2cents worth.
Nancy

I agree Nancy. I would much rather take my chances with free teck support via email rather than paying through the nose monthly and still getting crummy service.
