Building permits were down 29 percent last year in Mecklenburg County, a strong sign that new home sales will be down for at least the next few months, likely longer.
For the third quarter, sales of new single-family homes, townhouses and condos were down 17 percent in an eight-county region that includes Mecklenburg and South Carolina's York and Lancaster counties. That followed a second-quarter drop. Prices generally rose on third-quarter sales, with the exception of existing townhouses and new condos, which saw declines in the region.""
