"Ben Carson Finds $500 Billion (Billion!) In Errors During Audit Of Obama HUD
Ben Carson was the first neurosurgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins, so, he's kind of a super hero.

But apparently, he's also not a bad accountant.

President Trump picked Carson to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, whose budget grew by leaps and bounds under Barack Obama.

In one of his first acts as HUD Secretary, Carson ordered an audit of the agency. What he found was staggering: $520 billion in bookkeeping errors."

Snopes is a left winged government website. Maybe the Russians did it. Bernays would be proud.

and your source is a RW website "news" outlet started by a RW conservative in 2015..hardly uniased. If this were true it would be reported widespread including on conserative outlets such as Fox. Wonder why it is such a non news item...

If or if not Dr. Carson is responsible for finding the error is moot. Keep trying to change the subject of the 500 Billion accounting scandal during BHO watch. Castro should be investigated.

LOL... the same type of dimwits as djd are posting this silly stuff on the FB groups. Half a trillion dollars lost and none of the legitimate news sources are picking it up. They're also saying the same thing about Snopes.

Google the topic and see who is reporting this. notsoBreitbart, infowars, chicksontheright, angrypatriotmovement....

Ben Carson can barely stay awake let alone audit HUD in a month.

How come no other news sources, including conservative news sources such as Fox are not reporting the story? Maybe because it is not factually correct?

According to the IG report, after the first review, Obama staffers had to correct a whopping $520 billion in bookkeeping errors.

When the IG remained unable to issue an opinion for fiscal years 2015 or 2016, he gave Obama staffers a three-month extension. Thus, their reprieve allowed them to fix $3.4 billion in 2015 errors and $516.4 billion in 2016 errors.

After HUD’s re-submission of paperwork, 11 material weaknesses, seven significant deficiencies, and five instances of failure to comply with laws and regulations remained unresolved.

Read what it says carefully, these were prior year issues dealt with by HUD's IG, nothing that Ben Carson "discovered"....

Net and gross adjustments.

"The total dollar figure noted in the report — roughly $520 billion — is undeniably a very large amount of money (equivalent to approximately 13% of the entire 2015 federal budget). But the OIG report explains that figure was the absolute value of all numeric corrections made to HUD financial records, meaning all numeric adjustments (whether positive or negative) were added to create that aggregate figure.

A simple analogy would be to consider a bookkeeper who mistakenly entered the same $1,000 payment into a ledger six times: the aggregate value of those mistakes would be $5,000, but that would not mean the hapless bookkeeper actually “found” and/or “lost” $5,000 in real funds, or that that amount of money ever actually passed through his hands. Likewise, the OIG report on HUD does not mean that $520 billion was lost and then recovered as of 1 March 2017:"

This is the set up for when the Syrian missile strike news looses steam and the Trump/Russia investigations get back on the daily news cycle.
