Does anyone have any recommendations -or warnings on the software that is available out there?

Thanks

Recommendations:
1. MS Word / Excel
2. OpenOffice.org

There are posts in here about this.
Not familiar with and haven't heard of any really good commercial narrative 'software', which, unless it actually writes the report for you, not sure I can see a big enough benefit to justify the large amounts of cash the programmers are looking for. In my reports, I have just a few sections of data that repeats, and the rest is, as they say, 'let the fingers do the walking'..........as in, 'narrative'.

I did some work for an outfit that used valuetech software. While the layout and general boilerplate stuff was good and it did have nice features like a database, it is imbeded within Word and unstable. Customer service is good, but for reports that are large or included lots of graphics the entire thing locks up. Just my experience.
