Can someone here explain the continuing education requirement to me?

I have a call into Felicia Badger, but I'm sure she is very busy and who knows when she will get back with me??

My question is...

I upgraded my license back in Nov 07 to CR. My license expires in July 08. Do I need to complete any CE credits before my license expires?? Seems to me that I would fall under the "All others must complete continuing education after their first renewal" category

Is "upgrading" your license considered a renewal?

Why would I have to complete an additional 28 hrs of CE between Nov 07 and Jul 08 when I just completed enough coursework to qualify for CR prior to Nov 07? Seems like a bit much to me

Also... did anyone read where it says "to ensure that your renewal is processed timely, it is suggested that continuing education be completed and reported to the Department no later than May 30 of each renewal year, even though the deadline for continuing education is July 31 of each renewal year."

I might only have two months left to complete 28 hours of CE :Eyecrazy:

Good question Jason, I am in the same situation. I took MI law and USPAP online courses in Jan. just in case they were needed for this renewal...
Hopefully we get a clear answer soon!

Check McKissock online - they have a lot of online courses. And from what I gather, their class roster provides you with classes that are specifically acceptable to your state.
Prices reasonable.
I wouldn't do them all online - I think the classroom experience is valuable because others often ask questions you can benefit from hearing, but in a crunch - Online!

I wouldn't just ask for Felicia - I'd ask for anyone who answers the phone in Licensing...

Thanks Liz,

I got my answer though... and this may shock some of you. Here is what Felicia had to say regarding my situation:

"The State of Michigan Laws & Rules state that you are not required to
have continuing education because due to changing your license level.
However, the AQB does require that 14 hours of continuing education must
be obtained. I would suggest you take the 14 hours of continuing
education, 7 hrs. of which must be the latest USPAP update.

The reason I suggest this is we are awaiting an opinion from the
Attorney Generals office to this quagmire. I am trying to be proactive
in my suggestion. We report monthly to the National Registry which has
a box stating whether or not a licensee is AQB compliant. If this
requirement is not met they may interpret you as not being AQB compliant
because you did not complete their required 14 hours of continuing
education.

See attached page 31 of 52.

I hope this is helpful..."

So basically it looks like in addition to a USPAP update class, I need one other 7 hour class in order to be AQB compliant. I'll probably take the 08 FHA class. I still can't believe I have to take a USPAP class this close to passing my CR exam. In my opinion passing the exam should demonstrate enough USPAP knowledge for at least a year before needing recurring education.

Maybe its just a way for the AQB to make money  m2:

Ms. Clement, where did you find the Michigan law class on line?

Through Holloways Institute - online class was by Hondros college - think they joined forces about a year ago.

(Thank you, but you can call me Norma and I'll call you Tim, if that's ok with you!) :)
