Please- someone help me!!! I will take the test for the 2nd time and need to find a good prep class or test or something. This is the test to get into the county program - NOT TO GRADUATE AND BEGIN WORK.

PS - whats with the weird boxes with shaded areas on them (test question)and the even weirder question: If u turn this over what shape will be on the reverse?

Like I would know?!

I'm not aware of any books or course providers who address how to pass this particular test. It looks like you might be running into some questions that are designed to test your ability to visualize certain types of problems. The test is probably more about aptitude and potential than knowledge and experience.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply- if anybody has any info on this matter please feel free to HELP ME OUT.

You may want to check with the Assessor's Office HR department. I was in your position over 3 years ago (applying for appraiser trainee jobs at any/all local county assessor's offices). I was eventually hired 10 months after I filled out my first application. Nothing moves quickly when you're dealing with government, be patient. Since being hired I have heard of a test prep book available to applicants, but I've never seen it.
You may want to broaden your job search to not just LA County but all counties you would be interested in. There will be thousands of applicants for the position you are interested in. Luckily when I was hired there were very few fee appraisers and Realtors willing to work for government wages!
Good luck to you. Feel free to PM for more.

Damien, how'd it go, assuming you took the county test this weekend? I took the test on Sunday and passed with 15 others out of 100. That seemed to be the general passing percentage. Yeah, the shaded boxes were a trip, but by process of elimination it got easier. Some of the math questions were ridiculously difficult...
Seriously - how many cubic feet are in a 15' X 15' X 8" cement slab in 15 percent humidity after it has been finished with a 12 ft long 1 X 1/6" board, and how much will it cost to complete the job at 94 cents a cubic foot plus the cost of a donut and coffee at current market price?
If any one has any advice on the interview process, please let me know. I'm young, educated and good-looking, but sometimes that is not enough. Lol.
