I have been looking at the Masters in Econ Program at Old Dominion University and they have a Center for Real Estate and Economic Development. I was wondering if anyone down in the Hampton Roads area has attended any events?

I would really like to attend the VCU program affiliated with AI up in Richmond, but I would be very difficult to attend classes living in Virginia Beach. I think I would spend more in gas than tuition if I actually tried to commute :)

Also, any ODU Alumni?? Anyone in the VCU program or a graduate of the real estate masters program?

Thanks.

I obtained VCU's Graduate Certificate in Real Estate and Land Development a couple of years ago. I was commuting from the Fredericksburg area. There were other people in the Certificate Program and the Master's program commuting from as far away as Arlington and one guy commuting from the Roanoke area. For you, I-64 would get mightly long come around 10-10:30 at night. A couple of the courses were on-line courses. The GIS and RE Law course, specifically. That helped. Dr. Smith, who started as a residential appraiser and now teaches the Land Development course, is not your typical college professor. I highly recommend taking any required course that offers him as the professor.

VCU has an active job placement program that ODU may not be able to match. You will get numerous emails about positions that are available for appraisers and analysts, primarily with companies in the Richmond area. And there is that deal regarding the MAI educational requirements. I recommend VCU despite the drive.

Good luck.
