Are appraisers held to a different standard than entities like AMCs and lenders?

Appraisers are held to higher standards than many professions. If we lied as much as attorneys, we would all be in prison. If we did as little as government workers, we would all be out of business. If we were wrong as often as politicians, we would all lose our certification. If we were as unethical as bankers, we never would have become appraisers. The list goes on and on and AMCs don’t even make the list. There is no comparison to the standards we are held to with any other profession in the real estate industry.

Why would we want it any other way? We do not want to be held to a lower standard and the world is never going to hold others to a higher standard. So we are just special.

It is all about control. Ask them how big the secondary market is now? If it was for public trust why is fannie allowed to dictate jargon in appraisals? the gig is almost up
