I know it is only near the end of April (and still snowing up here in the North Country as I write this) but it will soon be vacation time. One of the things that we all need and deserve is some time off. Time off, away and out of touch from the day-to-day hassle of doing appraisals. And since most of us are self-employed, nobody is going to tell us when to take a vacation. We have to be big boys and girls and figure that out ourselves.

One thing is certain. After the refi craze we went through late last year, we all need some time to kick back and unwind.

So do yourself a favor and book a vacation ASAP. I know there is never enough time for one but we all need them. They do wonders for the attitude and the general mental condition.

My office manager and I are actually slipping out two times this year; once in late June and again in September. We've made our deposits, planned the driving routes, laughed about being on a 37ft houseboat together alone for a week and already gotten enjoyment out of a vacation we have yet to take.

Do yourself a favor and plan some time off right now. As I said, if you are in the appraisal business, you both need and deserve it.

Paid the final payment last week on a Cruise only a short one, Leaving 4th July Which is a Thursday coming back Sunday. Right now with being only a one man company best I get is Long Weekends But I will make the Best of it. I will Take a week off hopefully between Christmas and New Years and planing something for Thanksgiving.

Haven't planned it yet but always take off the week of Thanksgiving. This will be our 5th annual trip to Destin, FL. Don't care whether it rains or how cold it is; we just kick back and relax and eat a lot of seafood. Man, Thanksgiving seems such a long ways off...

Mexico last week, Orlando the end of this month (my three year old's first time to see Mickey Mouse!).

Dave,

stay close to the little folks especially if it's hot out - I heard Mickey dropped 8O (smacked) a kid last year

A few years back when I was in dissy land had a watch swipped right out of my room :x haven't been back since.

We now journey to Rhode Island - an Island off the coast, it's wonderfull-the kids have a ball and there's no phone's - it's like going back to the 1920's - every July 4th for about the last ten years.

Having a mini family reunion in September and going up the Stikine River in jet boats!! Maybe do some "flight seeing" over the glaciers.

4th of July in the Pecos Wilderness north of Santa Fe, my wife, a couple of friends, some good horses, playing in the snow, watching the elk and bighorns........

Then (hopefully), Camden, New Jersey in September for the Battleship New Jersey Reunion.

Meantime, the fishing pole is behind the seat and pond bass are tasty.....

jtrotta,

Yes, I wondered about the heat in Orlando & am planning to be prepared with lots of gatorade on hand for the little boy, checking for heat exhaustion, etc. Concerning the watch: were you at a Disney Resort? We are staying at the Coronado Springs Resort in the Park. Maybe we need to be more careful about what we leave in the room? Anyone in the Orlando area out there? Whats the high temps for the end of May?

One vacation that is definetly planned is a trip to NE Nebr to a family reunion--after all only half of the population of east NE and SW IA are my relatives. So it will take the first two weeks of July just to visit my nieces and nephews. Then I am giving serious thought to attending the NAIFA convention in Vancover, BC the first week of Oct. Ride the train from LA to Seattle along the Pacific Coast to get there. The convention itself will be held right on the water front with one of the evenings a cruise through the harbor. Nancy--any suggestions for that area, before during and after the convention? Appraisal talk bores my poor husband crazy, so he will want to disappear during the convention. While I am driving from AZ to NE, might even try to find some of you forum posters. So if you are a mid westerner and want a cup of coffee and a piece of pie about 9AM some morning in early July, let me know. After all that is required when visiting Nebraska--pie and coffe at 9AM. Fried chicken, corn on the cob, jello salad with little marshmellows, strawberry shortcake and lots of other fixings for dinner which is served at noon is also required. Not only will I get to see relatives but I will get to eat "real" food.

Thanksgiving is our week, too. We love the beautiful drive down to Nashville and Memphis....stay at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, do Beal Street, and head on down to Mississippi. Nothing like that southern hospitality. Lower Delaware just got it's first Cracker Barrel...same food, same gift area, but no southern hospitality...in fact NO hospitality at all!
