If you are an animal lover there are two Northern California rescue organizations trying to help local shelters deal with the quickly escalating number of pets who have been abandoned in or at foreclosed properties. The local shelters in Stockton, Tracy, and Modesto (cities with high levels of foreclosures), as well as the Stockton Humane Society, are overwhelmed:

The rescue groups are:

Hopalong Animal Rescue and Second Chance Rescue http://www.hopalong.org.

Both are committed to rescuing the animals, placing them with 'foster families' and adopting them before they are euthanized.

Dog help

80 year old grandma helped a dog[hers];
in So Dakota, she had to neutralize, permanently, a mountain lion.

Teach that critter not to trespass.
