IVR, or Interactive Voice Response:

It's the scourge of the western world. And even if you don't know it by its official name, you certainly deal with IVR, probably on a weekly basis. IVR is better known colloquially as voice mail jail, voice mail he11, and other, less savory terms that I can't publish in this column. But whatever you call it, everybody hates "talking to the computer."

GetHuman provides the toll-free number (or a regular toll number, if no toll-free line is available) you need to dial, too.

On some systems if you shout out an expletive you will be transferred to a live operator.

That happened to me a few weeks ago. I Thought it was a fluke. How come when I swear at MY computer it just laughs and quits working? :shrug:

Thinking of some cases where i would rather use voice mail;
especially since i can speak faster than type,or write.

Shouting, some times @ least twice ''I want to speak to a person,live help'';
works wonders. Squeaky hinge gets the oil.

Nothing worked for me yesterday. I was on the phone for hours with the telephone company IVR. My internet connection was down. I finally figured out I had to REGISTER my computer dial up coordinates with them.

Did you also get the IVR recommendation: "If you are having problems connecting to the internet, go to our website for answers to FAQ!!!!" When I heard that I almost swallowed my tongue. If I could get to the website I wouldn't have a [email protected]#$$%^&^*&*()++ problem, you morons!!!!
