Wayne:

I find that on occasion as I am browsing through the new posts Little brown markers... if I hit the back button on my browser I wind up with all the messages marked as "read" little white marker?

I might miss some VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC or worse yet a joke I needed to hear...

Am I doing something wrong or is it ghosts in the forum?

Lee Ann,

It happens to me also  I am a clean freak and cleqan my Cache a lot (always saveing the AF cookie of course) but this happens MORE often than that.....hummm.......maybe we got BUGS

Daniel:
I on the other hand am a lousy housekeeper, could not care less about dustbunnies in my system, and have HD memory to spare, so my cleaning sprees are VERY very infrequent.

- I also try to stay off sites that add spy-stuff to my system I use the Kid's computer for cookie laden browsing.

I have lost my forum memory before after cleaning house, but this keeps happening when I am on-line, NOT doing any cleaning and shazam!~ there went my reading list

The reason is that when you log in you start a "session". If you hit the "back" button or the "Refresh" button it starts another session and that means that only those messages posted between the first session and the second session (which is likely to be a minute or two) will be shown as unread. So don't hit the "back" or "refresh" buttons, instead use the links provided by the forum.

Wayne;

I haven't checked my cookies since I started using my new computer three months ago, and WOW! I have a lot of cookies. I want to delete them all, but I know there are Forum cookies I need to keep. Which ones are they? What do I look for in the cookie list?

Why do you want to delete your cookies? All your settings for the various web sites you visit will be gone! When you go back to a web site you will have to start over again.

However to answer your questions this forum's cookies will have either appraisersforum.com or www.appraisersforum.com in the cookie name, or if using Netscape, www.appraisersforum.com will be in the first line of the cookie when browsing the Netscape cookie file.

 thanks Wayne....

Guess I DID answer my own question, but it sort of seemed that sometimes it didn't wipe it out... guess I was just not observent enought to notice that it did so 100%

Technology, ain't it grand???

OK now I am baffled befuddled and confused...

I have carefully retrained my brain NOT to hit the browser back button....(had a few problems with the peripherals on autopilot  , but seem to have those under control now also) :P

HOWEVER!

My happy little brown bag reading list STILL keeps disapperating, save that unlike Harry Potter and his pals it never comes back  !

I might MISS some important piece of Wisdom, or other s--- er, ... stuff.

So what gives??? I swear (regularly) that I did not use refresh or back or any other forbidden key combo! Sometimes if I post a message all else disapears?!?!?

Any clues as to WHY?

Gremlins?

Seriously, I really don't know what the problem is. When I click on "new posts since my last visit" it shows me all the new posts. Then I right click on them and open then in a new window. When finished reading them I close that window. Then my list of new posts are still there.

Gremlins?
... and the little men in white coats that I can't quite SEE!

...Then I right click on them and open then in a new window.
A- HAH! This would be the missing piece of the equation! An' here I been left clicking and gasp doing so in the ORIGINAL window!

I jus' KNEW there was something more to this party than showin' up!

So NOW we haff the seee-cret method.

---------
Seems my way works most of the time but the failures tended to occurr when there was a larger number of posts except sometimes when it was just a few...

Ssoo step by step I got closer and ... never mind

Thanks for the help!
