It has been slow this week so far

My week has ended up being fairly good. I have written up 5 appraisals, done a completion inspection, have one that I have to write up and I have a new order that I appraised in 2007. Just have to go and re-inspect the subject, drive my comps and write up the new report. I may be able to get this all done by the end of Friday. If not, looks like I will be working Saturday. Keeps me from mowing the yard.

I was at about seventy percent of my normal volume for April ; this month has been even slower. I have a lot of projects I need to do at home-like building garage shelves but I worry about bills!

Last post for the week. I ended up having a really good week. I will be slow next week to start but that's ok because I want to take a few days off and get some work done around the house before my wife gets back to town.

How'd your week end up?

Excellent week, already set up for 4 next week, thats the way i like it. I got two orders from the "appraiser" sign outside my house (i live in a semi rural area).
I really cant complain, it is staying steady and paying the bills.

Have one tomorrow. Still slow for me though. Still trying to get new clients after taking most of the last year off. Frustrating some times. Most are saying they aren't taking on any more appraisers on their lists.

However, I'm not too worried yet. It will all fall in place, just need a little patience.

It's good to see someone with an optomistic attitude on this forum. Too many appraisers have a doom and gloom attitude here. Dean and I have a lot in common in terms of, we refuse to give into the hype of the appraisal industry is falling in. We have both been busy this year and I have a great year in 2007. I have just worked really hard on my client base. It has taken me several years and a lot of hard knocks to get there.

Good Luck!

An overall good attitude to have.
There are too many headless chickens running around this site screaming that the sky is falling. There are too many people who will have you believe that if you are honest, there is no work for you. There are too many who have fallen for the hype and are wallowing in their own self pity.
Of course there are unethical skippies that are making life difficult for all of us, and there is no doubt that the times are changing and appraisers are more in spotlight than ever before.
Hang in there, and remember that there are many ethical honest appraisers who are still making a good living in this business.
You have a good attitude, one that will serve you well.

This is my 20th year appraising and I've heard all the doom and gloom stories through the years. Although it is frustrating with the hold AMC's now have and the low fees but things will work out. I'm sure many appraisers will be dropping out. Less competition then and not as much incentive to accept lower fees. Actually, in all my 20 years I have never performed an appraisal for an AMC.

My ideal would be to have just two or three good bank clients, but I have yet to be able to break into that market yet in the 8 years I've been in TN. Most state that their roster is full at this time and they aren't taking any more.

Other than that I will just go with the flow and know that things will get better, I'm an optimist. Just need 3 good clients who respect what I do and my work.

Who are you doing your appraisals for?

Pa Akai,

3 bank clients isn't enough, anymore, thanks to the OCC letter and them insisting, more or less, on the rotation of appraisers. You'll need three times that amount, in my opinion, if not more.

I have double the amount, if not more, and it's not good enough these days.
