KLEZ Family Virus/Worm...ALERT

Jim,

Anyone who susbscribed to the Apprasial Buzz forum got it sent to them. I think my Norton stopped it and quarantined it (no fix that I know of), but now I have a problem.

I cannot access either NDC data or my local MLS- both times it says I am already connected (or someone else is using my connection- not likely since this is going on for 2 days).

Any idea if the old klex bug has something to with this? If not, any suggestions?

Just got one of our computers back from the shop today. It was really messing with my mind. Icons disappeared before my eyes, would open files or programs I didn't click on, would not open files I did click on..... 8O
Didn't damage anything, just a malicious little bug.
It came in when my father got an e-mail in a Win Zip format. He opened it and oops, save the check book data!! Ran a Norton scan on all the others, no other problems....yet.

Just got rid of it with a down load from sysmantec.

It is a worm that uses the backdoor of Outlook Email.

Check your msconfig start up settings.
It makes a file Wink_.exe (after the wink are random letters) but the file cant be found. It totally screwed up my appraisal programs and adobe

Also if you see notices of undeliverable mail to addressyou dont know.
You may have it. It also disables the virus detection software.

Dale: I just got RID of the KLEZ virus... Got two Emails from WILLIAM 5272 with Subject klez immunity... BOTH were Infected with the Virus and Symantec (Norton) caught them both and quarantined the Viruses/Worms! (Whew!!) :D

HOPE NO ONE ELSE GETS THIS NASTY VIRUS... Sorry about the damage to your programs.

Mell, I don't think that was a virus, I think you had one too many bud lights. Wade
Norton has caught 6 or 7 for me and have not had a problem, let's hear it for Norton.

  Wade, on a Friday night...maybe. But we got it fixed and quarantined. The problem is that my father has a slow dial up service, and had not updated Norton in many moons. :x I warned 'em.

I think I am going to buy him the high speed satellite system. Direct is offering a heck of a deal right now.

I have been bombarded with this virus thru NAIFA.COM site, with the lead on coming as a promise for a "fix" to the bug. Delete city.

Terrell,

Sure you got it from the NAIFA site? No one else did. I get e mail notifications from NAIFA- all quite WITHOUT a virus.

It is still being sent to me from the Appraisal Buzz site- daily- but Norton has it quarantined.

And, my other access problem was my fault- I had set my security settings too high.

Terrell,

I checked with the NAIFA webmaster who told me that it is virtually impossible that you got the worm from the NAIFA site (and Kelley is VERY knowledgeable).

She suggests that it may have come from a member who has it and has you in their Outlook phonebook- but NOT from the NAIFA site.

It has happened before. And remember that the virus can come from someone else with the worm simply using a fake "sender" ID.
