Just received notice that my Kodak DC 5000 digital camera has been recalled, for inspection and repair. I do not believe they will provide a replacement camera during this time, however I do have an E-Mail into the asking for one. Any suggestions on an inexpenseive alternative while my camera is away?

Did they mention what they were looking for? Is there a web address to find out additional information?

Walmart has some cheapies with minimal features for around $120 or $140. Or you could use the disposable 35mm cameras and scan in your photos for a few weeks, while you wait for your camera to come back. But that sounds like more work than necessary. I would probably get a less expensive camera and give it to my kids when done.

Thanks for posting this!

DC40 8O
Back-up system here I come!!!
HA ha ha HA ha ha-

Tain't purty but it works and drop tested and it's still ticking and clicking and energizer-bunny-camera GO! :P

may put them in for inspection/repair one at a time (have two in office) how bad a shock can four AAA give you anyway :?

I have a 640 pixel Vivitar purchased from CompUSA for $35.00. Simple rangefinder, no zoom, no memory sticks.....pics are all right and as good as I need for an appraisal. Besides, if my teen son wants a camera to go to the HS football games, it does fine.

Greg, I think you are the champion of bargain hunters -never heard of one that cheap. I bought a Kodak DC215 zoon this year and do like it a lot. It is compatible with all the software and I haven't taught myself to use a card reader yet (not enought time - or perhaps inclination!).

there's a chance of a short when loading unloading batteries according to a friend that has one.
I use a dc4800 rather than a 5000 as exposure controls can be adjusted. Just had it returned within a week from warrenty work. Kodak is good on that. I use the credit card sized Minolta Dimage x
(around $250 on the 'net) as a back up. Nice pictures, USB interface and has the audio notes when taking lots of pictures.

Bought brand new in the box DC 215 with a 16 meg card for $104 including shipping on EBay awhile back. Then I fixed my DC210s card door for $5 and now I have two great cameras. Also got a 20 meg card for $20.

Another camera I use is the DC220
it has features for recording 15 sec worth of comments. Good to have after taking 40 pix in a day.
The minolta back up has the the
microphone audio attachment too.

The Minolta is found by my software seamlessly, so for once technology
wins!!
