Paxton sues Austin church that is largest provider of homeless services in Travis County

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing a church that is the largest provider of homeless services in Travis County, alleging its South Austin headquarters has become a “magnet” for drug and criminal activity and poses a “drastic” threat to the surrounding neighborhood, including an elementary school.

Paxton’s lawsuit seeks a temporary injunction that, if approved, would force Sunrise Community Church’s Homeless Navigation Center to close.

“Drug activity and criminal behavior facilitated by this organization have hijacked an entire neighborhood,” Paxton said in a news release announcing the lawsuit.

The church, located on Menchaca Road just south of Ben White Boulevard, began offering homeless people services in 2015. Its center is funded in part by tax dollars, with the city having contributed more than $2.5 million since 2021, according to financial records. Just last week, the Travis County Commissioners Court approved $350,000 to help fund services there.

I have a major Honda plant in one of my areas. But I don't identify it as a Honda plant. It is a major auto and motorcycle manufacturing facility and the various supporting businesses. Same approach when in the neighborhood of The Ohio State University. I describe what it is not "who" it is.
This. I don't get why some many people are determined to die on this hill.

We believe in freedom of religion where I work. I never discuss religion or politics on an appraisal assignment. If a direct party says we wanted this property because it was located in a specific school district or near a religious facility, I take that as motivation of that party. Remember many private schools are private and religion associated in the areas I work.

If that party wants to discuss religion, I say something like I am here to appraise real property rights. I understand your motivations you have shared with me.

You can get in trouble there unless they agree with your religious beliefs and they bring it up.

I have said this before. Everybody worships something. You can believe it or not.

Rumble Files Lawsuit Against Democrat-Led State

By

Video-sharing platform Rumble has filed a lawsuit against California over a state law that regulates how platforms handle videos with AI-created ‘deepfakes,’ claiming it violates the First Amendment.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed the lawsuit on behalf of Rumble and Rumble Canada.

“California recently passed two laws that target and punish speakers for posting certain political commentary online. One of those laws, AB 2655, also requires large online platforms like Rumble to act as the government’s censorship police and remove such content from their sites,” ADF stated in a press release.

“California is forcing Rumble to alter its speech and censor its users’ speech, while also compelling the platform’s speech, in violation of the First Amendment,” it added.

“California’s war against political speech is censorship, plain and simple. We can’t trust the government to decide what is true in our online political debates,” said ADF Senior Counsel Phil Sechler.

That's clearly not in accordance with the first amendment, is it? The city should not be funding church activities.

I agree. The Church should do more on the abortion rights thing for women. The Church could say, we can take care of you and your baby until you want it or someone adopts it from us.

It was bad decision on scotus on women's rights to choose.

They do have a pill now which is similar IVF in some ways. In IVF, some living embryos die. They have a pill now that a woman can take the morning after and be okay. Same thing though if you believe life begins at conception.

As I indicated, church can have positive and negative influence to subject property.
Churches do attract outsiders which some don't like.
