Licensed NY Assistant has experience question.

I am newbee licensed assistant in NY . Been working with an appraiser for a month. My name does not get placed on the appraisal report as the assistant, and I am wondering if this means I am unable to use the jobs that I have been writing the reports on toward my experience hours.
The DOS is very vague. I have emailed the DOS licensing ..still no response. My mentor said that I would get 75% credit on each report that I produce...but how should I document it? Does anybody out there know this?
 
I'm not sure of the specifics of this situation off the top of my head since I never had to deal with it.

Does anyone know where the link to the Executive Law is? It seems to have been removed when the DOS RE Appraisal page was redone.

Does he at least add a comment in the addendum that "John Doe" (appraiser assistant) assisted with this report?

Also do you do the inspections all by your self, or is he still going along with you?
 
No. Although I have been out with on inspections, they primarily want me writing report in office. They said that for just writing, I could received 75% credit, but do not see that peice of info anywhere from the Exec law or the DOS site, and want to make sure I get the credit. I have read that if I work on 75% of the report, I can get 6 hours....but again, need to be recognized somewhere on that form.

It almost seems that if I just went out there and appraised everyones home I know, I would at least fulfill my experience. You don't have to have a supervisor sign if you do non-fed regulated work, do you?

That doesn't sound correct to me. Real estate appraisal experience is concerned with the valuation of property. Activities such as taking pictures, writing (or typing) a report where you did not assist in the development of the appraisal (i.e., value), or driving are activities anyone can do, and are not specific to appraisal practice.

You would if you want to receive experience credit.
 
§1102.4 Acceptable experience
(a) For standard appraisals, an applicant shall receive full credit for an appraisal if the applicant performed at least 75 percent of the work associated with the appraisal even if the applicant's work was reviewed by a supervising appraiser who signed the appraisal report. For the purposes of this section, the work associated with an appraisal shall include preparation of the appraisal report.

How is the % determined? At what point does the applicant know that 75% of the work has been completed?
 
I also pull all the tax records and do comps searches, flood and location maps, etc..
Wow, and my instructor at school said that we could appraise anyones home and use the report toward our experience as long as it was not a bank transaction (federally regulated).

Well, I hope people like me are allowed to sit in on the next Board Meeting on July 18th in Albany at the Smith Building, because I will be there asking all of them these questions.

This whole thing reminds me of some "sci-fi" movie.
