Who do I talk too about in trying to put together a mentoring program for this website? Can the person in charge of producing reply?

Appraisers that are somewhat retired or even retired watching the forum and whom that chat might have the good heart to mentor some young appraisers, if they choose to do that, can benefit. However, This whole idea will be up to the mentor.

The profession can grow if another room/forum is created.

Benjamin, ......The Forum, with all its current categories of discussion, is probably (one of) the largest, on-going mentoring program(s) for appraisers, valuators and s.w.a.g.'ers.....and all those who want to be.....or do not care to be .....and it already exists. It's a classroom which basically never closes the doors and turns out the lights. The students who attend class have the greater opportunities to benefit. Those who play hookie, and skip class, will likely benefit the least. That does not mean that those who have never attended these classes are not also learning. Just depends on the things one reads and the people with whom one associates. Maybe we can get all Forumites "at the school" to meet at the campus green one day, and we'll have a giant rugby match. We can separate our ranks into two teams and call the contest as the Free Comp-Checks versus the No Comp-Checks. Everyone must first pass through a weapons-search process before entering the field of play. Huh, now if we could just find one person to be the referee and blow the whistle to start the game !

Ben: The Guild has just started a 2 year teaching and mentoring program. We take a newby and guide him for 2 years with classes and field training , we also train his trainer. This program has been accepted by CA and we intend to expand it nationwide.

The object is to raise the ethics and awarness of appraisers and would be appraisers. We hope when all is said and done the appraisal profession will raise a notch or two.

As with the post above, this forum is incredible. Since you posted it in the commerical section, I assume you are looking for a commerical mentor. Read several of the posts here, between Paul, Ter, George and many of the contributors this is the best continuing ed you could ask for. If you realy want to get confused, ask Austin how much a pool contributes to a house.

This place is a great resourse that alot of us take forgranted. A while back, I did a thread asking everyone howmuch experience they had. At last count, there was more than 400 years of experience by the regulars on this board.

I agree with the previous posts. This web page is a great source of information and (in some cases) encouragement for newbies. Most appraisers work alone and the ability to bounce ideas and questions off other appraisers is a great tool for newbies and oldies alike.

The Appraisal Institute also has an appraiser training program that matches mentors with newbies. It was developed by the Membership Diversity Committee and as such, particularly encourages women and minorities to get involved in the program. Following is the web page with additional info.

Since some posts strayed off the topic of this thread I have split them and put them in the Watercooler under the heading of "unions".

Please stay on the original topic of a thread, or start a new topic if you must stray.
