I have a checklist. The one question on the checklist says " The MH unit has been built to Federal Mandatory Home Construction Standards".

I'm not sure what to put here. The home is a 1987 model. Is this talking about homes built after 1976 or after 1989?

Anybody know? Thanks!

They probably mean since 1976 when HUD began regulating construction standards. HUD plates should be on the exterior and the HUD cert. numbers may be on the Data Plate inside the home. (The paper with the map of the U.S. on it.)

Call and ask 'em?

Thanks Wally. 76 is what I was thinking. I'll double check some old paperwork. Thanks again.

Be very careful about answering the questions. Only answer about the year, name of manufacturer, serial number (information you obtained from data plate inside the home, HUD label number from the tag on the exterior, size (based on your field measurements, and that the wheels, axles and tongue have been removed. Everything else they ask about needs to be answered by a completely different professional--they are not part of an appraisers expertise.

The official name for the HUD code is Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards and since 19776 manufacturers confirm compliance with the Standards by attaching a red label to the back of each transportable section of a home produced. Title 24-Housing and Urban Development, Chapter xx--Office of Assistant Secretary of Housing, Federal Housing Commission, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Part 3280--Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards is the full title of the document

When you have a few minutes to surf the internet, go to http:www.HUD.gov, then at the upper right click on search, type in manufactured housing. You will find all sorts of interesting information.

By the way, see why I get so perturbed with those check lists--the lenders don't even know the correct terms and who they need to contact regarding the items they are concerned about!
