I'm beginning to have a few problems when opening Internet Explorer, and more often than not, get an error message. Could it be I should download a newer version of Microsoft? I currently have Microsoft 5.5 and Windows Professional 2000. If you can't guess, I'm pretty much computer illiterate. Thanks.

Try uninstalling 5.5 and reinstalling it. Just make sure you have 5.5 to reinstall first!

Easiest and fastest thing is to upgrade to 6.0. It's painless and only takes a few minutes (if you're on broadband), if you're on dialup the download will take quite a while.

I think I may go ahead and upgrade to 6.0, but not on a weekend! If there's one thing I learned from past experience, it's ....don't mess with anything different on the computer unless I can either call a techy if there's a problem, or call the manufacturer. The self-fix sites set me in a fit! I've counted on a weekend more than once to catch up on work, only to boldly venture out and download something to make things more efficient, thus ending up out of business for the weekend.   Thank you all.

I really believe that a course in basic computer maintenance should be allowed and offered for license renewal. But then again, maybe not. All of us older people will soon die off after the steep learning curve. Kids nowadays know computers inside and out by the time they're seven. And, at three years old they're installing their CD's and playing games.

Charlotte, go ahead and go to the microsoft site and upgrade to 6.0. It does all the work itself. If you don't have a broad band connection it will take a long time to download. You can order a CD from Microsoft and they will mail it to you.

Don't be afraid anyone can do it.

P.S. make sure that you are not running any other programs when you start the upgrade.
