 Are any of the New Jersey appraisers aware that their State Board is very seriously considering raising the licensing fee from $200 per period to $600 :?:

Have any of you been able to raise your fees by 300% to cover the State's raise :?:

All of you know that we have not been able to renew our licenses and the sole reason for this was to wait for the new administration to beg for a change in the law. And, of course, the new govenor was already crying poverty before he even took the oath.

Not only will it be $600 every two years, but 28 hrs of education will be another $600 (four 7 hour courses at $150 each). That's $1,200 every two years just for a license. Now add in MLS dues&fees, any Appraiser memberships (like the institute) and the "traditional" expenses like supplies, cameras, software upgrades, new computers, etc.

Right now we can "afford" the raise because business is good. Any of you who have been in the business for more than five years knows that there are years when the $1200. would really be significant.

Any ideas on how to stop this :?: Do any of you have political connections :?:

You should structure your poll so each selection means one thing.

You have "for or against" as 1 answer.

Just trying to help! You can edit your post and correct it if you wish.

Wayne,

:) Thanks for the help.
While I have posted replies before, this is my first "topic"

PS---Great Site :!:

That is outrageous Barbara. I hope that they don't. However I must admit that I am suprised that my state hasn't raised their fees in a long time. I am licensed in both NY and PA, so I will be bitten twice by any raised fees. Myabe some of he appraisers here who sit on state boards have some advice on how to fight it.

This increase is a done deal. The state board passed it last August, they just didn't tell appraisers about it until they sent out the renewals (late).
Part of the reason for this situation and other stupid actions by the board is that appraisers do not complain. I attended one state board meeting and was one of four appraisers in the audience. Unless appraisers get together this type of abuse will continue.
