Just curious if anyone ever used the online education from the appraiasl Institute? They have several courses that I would like to take but it's $100.00 for members and $125.00 for non members. Some state you can use it for continuing education credits. I'm was just curious if anyone had tried it before? Curious how it works? If you can really learn some good appraisal practice? Just wanting some feedback before I spend the money.

<span style='color:brown'>They are good classes for CE. If you want to know a little about a subject in a hurry, they will provide you with the basics. I strongly reccommend any course offering from the AI or NAIFA or any other "sanctioned" organization.....none of them will risk their reputation on second rate education.</span>

GP,
For the last 5 years I've used AI's classes
exclusively for my CE. Having been in the
biz for over 25 years I've taken just about
every class. Attending classes are a good
way to get a feel about how other appraisers
act and you find an instructor with real wisdom
from time to time. But if you just need CE and don't want
to drive to a class and sit on a hard seat
for 8 hours, you can't beat AI's classes.

I know that AI is good education. But the point I was trying to make is the online education classes worth it. I know that the instructor lead classes are great but are the online courses worth the dime. I was trying to find someone that has taken online AI courses.

Hugh,

I've taken both AI online and McKissock online courses. AI courses are truly online. McKissock is a virtual classroom that requires downloading the course to your computer. McKissock has the advantage as you can take some modules prior to paying out the bucks to see if you like them.

If you're going for CE only, they are the way to go. If you want to learn something, you need more than a 7 hour CE class or just ask a question or read the posts on the appraisersforum. You'll learn more here.

Both AI and McKissock require tests at the end of each module.

Now, Ben's method of taking internet CE since CE is very silly to the practicing appraiser. First, never read the stuff on-line. It takes too much time. You might actually spend 7 hours there. Not good.

Second, print out each module and then take the test. With the printed stuff in front of you, the tests are easy. No sense reading what you don't need to answer the questions, right? So I basically print and test. As fast as the printer will go, I take the tests. Internet CE in 45 minutes. You get 7 hours of credit. What could be better. Of course, it always helps to take a course that you know everything about, then you don't have to waste the paper to print out the modules. If you really feel bad or have a guilty conscience, you can leave the computer on for 7 hours.

I guess you can tell I hate CE.
