Well, it’s been 38 years since I began as an appraiser; commercial at first (MAI), then residential (SRA) and I served on the ACLB during the last 8 years. I’ve witnessed lots of changes to what was once an honorable and respected profession; survived various business cycles and listened to an ever increasing volume of caterwauling over the years. Appraisal and I are no longer compatible. I want to do something else when I grow up.

My tenure on the board has been disheartening. Although I managed to get a few enhancements enacted, they have been few, far between and at a glacial pace. I tried establishing communication between the regulatory side and working appraisers through this forum (thank you, Wayne) and other means but few appraisers (maybe half a dozen) care or understand. I doubt that you’ll get much communication from your board in the future.

You’re on your own now, Oregon appraisers - pick up the ball and run with it or continue to whine and sit on your thumbs. Oregon Doug has left the building and doesn’t care anymore.

Doug Nelson aka, Oregon Doug

Thank you for your years of service Doug.

I hope that you will continue to contribute to the forum as a retired appraiser.

Most people wouldn't have accomplished as much as you did. I salute you sir. I think you should go fishing now.

Oregon Doug,
I want to be you when I'm a grown up appraiser.
Thank you for all you've contributed to the Oregon appraisal field.
You have my utmost respect and I hope (like everyone else) that you stayed tuned to the Forum and guide us when needed.
Enjoy yourself :new_multi:

Sincerely,
Kimberly Korbe

I didn't know appraisers retired, Doug!!

I hope you find a way to impart some of that vim and vigor to another appraiser to carry on the work!!

Take the day off...

Good job. I would suggest get a nice bottle of Jack, head
to Gearhart, sit on the beach....and get ripped.

Best of luck Doug, and thanks again for all you have done and attempted to do. Just remember to spend enough time fishing.

.....your kindly shared knowledge and helpfulness are appreciated individually and collectively by appraisers throughout the nation.......best to you...........rs

Hello Oregon Doug,

Well, I like the others hope you keep up with the forum. You were one of the first in Oregon to offer me guidance and I appreciate your effort to improve new appraisers and the profession.

Keep us informed on your book. Your new endeavor sounds like a great way to spend your time-when your not fishing. Here's to Oregon Doug:beer:
