Appraisers Petition

To: Governor Michael Easley
Senator Marc Basnight
Representative James Black
cc: All NC Legislators

Whereas, all licensed and certified real estate appraisers in North Carolina must perform all appraisals in accordance with USPAP (Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice) and the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAB (North Carolina Appraisal Board).
The concern of this petition has to do with the process of appointments to the NCAB. We, the undersigned, seek your assistance in making sure that all appointments made to the NCAB are done so without regard to race, creed, color, religion and political party affiliation. The working real estate appraisers of NC (and other states as well) deserve and request that the members of the NCAB be appointed based on qualifications, character, ethics, experience, knowledge, and ability to both serve and protect the public as well as promote and encourage the honest, ethical and competent practice of real estate appraisal.
There are in excess of 3,800 appraisers in NC who are regulated by the NCAB. There are numerous organizations, which support and represent real estate appraisers, yet none which speak for a majority of our states practitioners. We the undersigned ask that you remove undue influence and politics from the NCAB and the selection process and make appointments more in keeping with a professional license board.
The real estate appraisal business is one of constant and rapid change. Technology, standards of practice and license requirements are in a nearly constant state of progression and improvement. It is imperative that all NCAB members be knowledgeable, educated and involved in every facet of the appraisal business.
