Today this very contrite sounding email came from the GSEs. 
No "Rah-Rah-3.6-Abomination". No "3.6 - Best Thing Since Sliced Bread".
But - a whiffable odor of NERVOUSNESS.
So what could I do but answer honestly and politely. It was a VERY thorough survey - as in "we know we initiated a train wreck and now we need to gauge just how bad it is" kind of questions. Frankly, I was impressed and answered honestly.
For the LAST question, I picked the LAST answer: "I AM RETIRING SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO DO THE 3.6 (ABOMINATION)" (or words to that exact effect).
They know it folks. For all the shilling, spinning and outright lying we've seen on this forum - THEY KNOW IT FOLKS. They are in "TRIAGE MODE".
Oh this is gonna be good. Really, really GOOD.

Who's choice is it to retire or not?
41 pages. That's how long new appraisal reports could become under

So, 9 months following the initiation of this poll, we can come to some conclusions:
1. 59% of appraisers hate the uad 3.6 abomination;
2. 22% are retiring outright, which appears to me to be right on the money.
3. 37% are still in the 'I might well retire if I can't make this thing work' mode, which tells you all you need to know.
These are the folks I most feel for because not that many years ago we would have been in the same boat, trying to figure out a way forward, in order to continue making some amount of appraising income per year.
But this group, whom we will call the 'most seasoned appraisers but not quite at the retirement point yet' will probably never have the level of success that they managed to have under the old system, because the new system essentially ignores and discounts all of their prior experience.
I've spoken about this ad nauseam, so I'll just sum it up by saying it really ****ing sucks. And the fact that do nothing parasite bureaucrats are the ones forcing this on the hard-working people in the appraisal ecosystem is the most infuriating part.
But it is what it is. Good luck everybody, life goes on.
