Bill,

Appraiser's toolbox V8.0: Windows 98:

This is a friend's machine, it's not at my location. She did'nt know what chip, how much RAM and could'nt help me find out. I think it has plenty of hard drive space, but not to much RAM.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Kevin.

Here's the e-mail that I sent back to Kevin (for all else, who might be interested ..):
Okay ..

Right-click on 'my computer' on the desktop .. on the tabs choose 'hardware' or some such, and it will tell you what processor, at what speed and the available memory. First off, though .. get rid of version 8.0 .. that had a problem that was eventually determined to be a WinDoze problem, not a Toolbox problem .. there's directions on their site to a patch/fix for it. I mostly had the problem trying to save graphics/pictures.

There's no substitute for memory! Am now upgrading three 'puters to 256 Meg of memory .. $29/each .. it'll go a lot faster, and have fewer problems. HOWEVER -- as stated in other threads, WinDoze98 is pretty much a dead issue, as is anything earlier. I found that a lot of problems died when I went to WinDoze2K/Pro .. and a lot more problems went away when I changed from a 333Mh Pentium II to a P4/1.8Mh .. (which can be done for $105.00 from TigerDirect with a mommyboard and processor kit.)

Also, many difficulties that I'd blamed on WinDoze were found to have been a fault in the mommyboard. Best thing I can offer you immediately is to download V9.86, which is their very last of the 16-bit applications. However, I've found it to have minimal problems ..

Good Fortune! And keep me posted on your progress ..

B.
