We are looking for resources for writing narrative appraisals for some complex properties. These properties are involved in estate settlements, have acreage, some of which could be developed, some of which can't. We have only had to do one other narrative report previously.

Does anyone have a good template to use, or know where to find some? How about publications from Appraisal Institute or elsewhere that would be of help in doing these in the future?

Thanks! :)

The Appraisal Institute has a booklet with a title something to the effect of "Narrative Report Writing". Check their web page at www.appraisalinstitute.org. They also have a number of books on how to appraise certain types of unique properties, and may have something additional that would be helpful to you.

NAIFA has a booklet on same subject. McKissock has courses on same subject.

I developed WordPerfect templates to use for narratives. I use the table feature to create and calculate the Cost approach, NOI statement, and adjustment grids. It is not as hard as it sounds. Word or Word Perfect can do it, a few nightclasses in Word at the local college or Tech might go a long ways towards it.

I just completed a narrative class 2 weeks ago and prepared a demo narrative for the instructor saved in .rtf (Word or WP will read) This does not have the codes, but does provide some of the basic design features.

If you want a copy email me, and I will send it.

Terrel,
