Real answer:

Go work at clear capital as a reviewer. $40k a year. Roseville, ca. Bonuses, insurance 401(k) if have CR. You'll make about 40.01k a year if meet the quota and 401(k) actually cost you money.

Or go work for pge with zero education starting out at $36 hour plus $8 medical plus 1.75 overtime + meal pay ($20 to eat) + 18% retirement plan. (10%+8%)

5 best friends work for them. Pass the test, get on waiting list (3 months) and making $95k a year with not very many responsibilities.

Want x-mas off? No problem. The union says anyday off you want you have to have.

On and on.

But hey, doing appraisal is cool too.

If money is the goal. Fortune 100 or union. If min. Wage is the goal for 10-30 years. Res. Appraiser, home inspector, pilot (1st 5 yrs) McDonald's etc

What is the pay and benefit package for a SL staff appraiser?
Pay depends on how much they do and where they are. Standard benefits - vacation, insurance, expenses, etc.

It makes me think of a hamster on a hamster wheel. I can only imagine turnover.

The fastest and cheapest is the main problem.

For some folks, making the most money is not always their top priority.....

I've read many posts on the AF, current and past (10+ years ago), and a common thread throughout the decade plus is how dissatisfied independent appraisers feel....
About fees, appraisal volume (too much, too little, too whatever), lender appraisal requirements, blacklisted, etc.
A decade from now, if the system remains the same as today....
I expect to read more of the same....

So, what you make as an independent appraiser does not depend on how much work you do ? :). You on a hamster wheel too?

If PGE is really paying people $95k for a job with few responsibilities, no wonder electricity rates in CA are so hideously high (50% more than the national average).

If I remember correctly, a CR starts at $20/hr for the state + sweet benefits. 37.5 hours a week, 11 holidays, 7 days vacation 1-3 years, 14 days 3-15 years, 21 days 15.....
Couple raises every year, steps up in the pay chart, cost of living.
Not bad for a 7-3 shift.
That's a fat $39,000 a year
Which is what I'd call pathetic.
That's 75% of the national average income ($52,000)
....must be cheap to live by you.

Yeah but a little higher pay scale than the oligopsony. Lol

I have other fringe benefits as well.

I'm a mass appraiser in South Dakota. We too are constantly pushed to appraise more properties a day, and hit goals/ quotas. I would say in the last year, my partner and I appraised around 600 residential properties and 175 commercial properties. The job is 40 hrs a week, fairly flexible hours, and good benefits. Pay now is around $20/hr (SD is relatively cheap living) and after being licensed I should be able to do fee appraisals on the side in the county north of me. I'm a state-registered trainee and should be licensed residential within a year, mass appraisal experience does count, despite the general perception otherwise. This is a good "staff appraisal" position at an entry level.

Your like Jtip or will be. Kudos. Your similar to some of my acquaintances who don't do any appraisals but are certified residential or certified general.

I know the number who don't do any has to be big. The owner of this forum probably don't do any. I don't know if he still holds his license or not. He was an appraiser. He may still be.
