They are charging homeowners a 1,000 for an appraisal. How dishonest.

Be careful. Some on here will accuse you gouging and being out of touch

IMO - don't think so, the gouging & skimming is from the AMC; T is fairly accurate and I agree, when you look at the Historical reference for Report Fee's past. Prior to '07 my Fee's were in the 400-500 mark and with AMC's steeling all my Clients (25 years worth) and skimming 50% for themselves, I would hardly believe We are gouging anything.

So at this time and IMO, I will disagree with anything regarding gouging on the appraisers part.

This conversation is a regular on these forums. At the end of the day, the borrower is not now and never has been our client or intended user in a mortgage transaction. The ordering entity is my client. My fees I charge for appraisals are higher now then at anytime in the 18 years I have been appraising. Frankly, it is not my business what the AMC or bank charges the homeowner. THAT money is not mine. I control what I charge to clients.

I think it is telling that appraisers can be in a situation where there fees are higher then ever before. . . but are up in arms that the borrower is paying the ordering entity more then what the appraiser is getting.

Half my time used to be chewed up marketing to local banks, mortgage companies and brokers. A lot of time and money were spent doing that. Now all my marketing is via internet. That creates a great deal more time for appraisal assignements.

I'm good
