I was not aware that the Appraisal Institute was actively attempting to dismantle the current national appraiser regulatory system. I guess great minds think alike!
According to the June 1, 2015 letter, they state that the AI is attempting to "harm the Foundation" although the letter does not specify exactly what that means except to imply that the AI wants to remove USPAP as the sole set of standards. (I thought that Congress specifically wanted a minimal set of standards, yet I guess TAF wants their minimal set to be the only set?)
"The Appraisal Institute (AI) is approaching members of Congress to sponsor legislation which will essentially dismantle the current national appraiser regulatory system. Provisions being suggested by the AI include the elimination of the Appraisal Subcommittee and the removal or significant dilution of the Congressional authority of The Appraisal Foundation (TAF)."
Sorry if this is already covered in another thread. I searched for the topic and did not see it.
(I attached a copy of the letter.)
If you have an opinion, and have not already done so, feel free to take part in the poll I started:

I wish that the foundation and the AI would reach out to rank-and-file appraisers for input. TAF has already proven themselves (to me) to be whiny and unconcerned about how they impact individual appraisers. They seem to be more about "Empire Building" than about supporting the industry. I also note how they actively influence state regulatory boards to accept their decisions rather than get input from industry professionals.
Even their letter snivels to appraisers to help them stop the big, bad Appraisal Institute. The odd thing is that, as an appraiser duly registered, why didn't I get a copy of this via email? To whom did they actually send the letter to? Have any of you gotten a copy of it?
The most laughable statement in their letter to the state of California committee is that they (TAF) are a "neutral third party".
In everything I have noticed recently is that they are anything BUT neutral. Their letter is not "neutral" but takes a firm stand against the AI.
This private entity takes fees from us appraisers and uses it in a way that does not support our livelihood. They are secretive and manipulative. As I indicated in my other thread, I hope they go by way of the Dodo bird. They overstep their legal bounds and, with their increasingly difficult barriers to entry, they are harming the profession.
